Coffee is a daily indulgence (or need) for many photographers. Rising early to capture the morning light isn’t always easy, but the smell and taste of a hot coffee, espresso, latte, or whatever your favorite drink is helps make the start to the day go a little smoother.
Coffee is also a great photography subject. If you live or visit a location (like Seattle) that has a strong coffee culture, you’ll find little shops and cafes on every corner, many of them locally owned. These creative places can offer a lot of great subjects to photograph; local coffee, old machines, location of the shop, and the overall atmosphere the local owner has created for the customers. If you prefer more of the corporate look, finding a Starbucks isn’t too hard to do nowadays.
Your best option though for good coffee pictures is probably in your own kitchen. This is the place where a lot of coffee drinkers and photographers make their best work. Like photography, coffee making is an art and the more you do it, the closer you get to creating the ideal cup of joe.
Here are a few images from photographers from our Flickr group who take their coffee making and photography seriously. Hopefully it stimulates your creative spirit and gives you a few coffee picture ideas.
