40 Inspiring Examples of Blue Hour Photography
While many of you photographers have heard of the golden hours – that short time immediately after sunrise and before sunset where the light is incredible for photography – there is another time that creates a surreal environment with natural light.
Instead of giving you high-contrast scenes bathed in golden tones, the blue hours provide you with this fantastic overcast lighting across your scene – giving you deep saturation of colors and great detail. The time just before sunrise or after sunset – also known as twilight – gives off a blue/purple hue that is truly unique. Combine this with a strong composition, and you’ll be well on your way to creating beautiful blue hour images.
Below is our collection of some of the best blue hour photos from around the world.

Nice images but I was taught that the Golden Hour is an hour after sunset or before sunrise. Anybody else have thoughts on that? Thanks for putting these together.

@ben golden hour is before sunset and after sunrise (when you see the golden color of the sun, hence the name gold hour), blue hour is after sunset and before sunrise when the sun is not visible but you can still see it’s glow given this dark blue colors.

As a professional and an amateur I lived for that hour prior to sunup and after sunset. Fill in lighting for a subject in the foreground must be balanced with the background sky. There is that enchanting balance between artificial lighting and sky light. the magic hour(or as the french call it the blue hour)is a must for your portfolio and even more so for your own mind, body and soul.
