As we grow as photographers and learn to “see” the world around us, its helpful to be able to study great examples of composition, lighting, and technique. Here is a list of photographers that I believe master all of those.

    ALthough he’s offline travelling until November, Gavin Russell’s photo’s are probably the best I’ve seen on Flickr. More than just a photographer, he gives so much of himself in the process.

    Paul Van Hoy is a well known and charming character. He has a great ability to really captures the joy and romance of countless couples. His photography speaks for itself. One could spend hours going through his photos of weddings to landscapes to portraits. He lets his imagination and creativity run wild in all of his photos. Check out his site for frequent updates of happy newlyweds or his various photographic adventures. A true photojournalist.

    He won a Pro Photography Microsoft competition in 2007 and I choose him to shoot my wedding.

    Why does taking pictures of people who look as if they are anorexic and near death (Zhang Jingna, Quentin Shih, Hirano Aichi) make someone a great photographer? These are deeply uninteresting pictures. Some of the others aren’t bad.

    I like Zhang Jingna’s and Alexandra Hager’s portraiture work. Though for the other photographers here, I’d say are very good but I would not put them into the “amazing” category. I have seen many unknown photographers out there whose work can leave a lasting impression and of those I would call “amazing”.
