Visual Flow Presets Review | A Game Changer for Portrait Photography Editing

December 8, 2021 · Julie Bentacourt

Finding an efficient editing process isn’t always a one-size-fits-all solution. Photographers have different methods of editing and shooting which makes it hard to find a preset system designed for a large majority. One thing that all photographers can agree on is that once a particular preset system works, the editing process becomes effortless. So the question is, how do you find one that fits? Most Lightroom Presets don’t work because they:

  • are not one-size-fit-all
  • are made for certain camera types
  • require excessive editing to fix and create consistent imagery
  • don’t offer a variety of looks

Visual Flow uses Lighting Condition-Based Development Technology to offer photographers different presets that best apply to various lighting scenarios. Ranging from hard light to indoor flash, each condition has been tested over thousands of photos to achieve a flawless system. Here are the different lighting conditions:

  • Soft Light
  • Hard Light
  • HDR Natural
  • Backlit
  • Flash
  • Tungsten
  • Over Saturated
  • Tungsten Mix
  • Green Tint
  • Black & White

How to Use Visual Flow Presets

Select the preset based on the lighting condition the image was photographed in and that’s it. It feels like a gimmick to say it’s as easy as one-click but it truly is!  You can always dial in the right exposure or color temperature that fits your intended look. They also have a Retouching Toolkit that allows you to tweak and add to make sure your image is just right! It uses Lightroom’s Adjustment Brush tools to help dodge, burn, enhance, sharpen, or dehaze.

Different Looks, Same Impeccable Quality

Visual Flow has released five different packs to ensure that photographers have a variety of looks. Each pack comes with the same lighting conditions but with different vibes. All of the patent-pending Lighting Condition Based Development system and the DVLOP color profiles. This means that no matter the camera model and no matter the lighting condition, you’ll get a beautiful, consistent look to the images. You’ll see the exact same preset names (Soft Light, Hard Light, HDR natural, etc.), and all of the same camera profiles will be supported. Below you will find a photo example of each pack with a description of what it encompasses.

Modern – Warm & Vibrant

Mood – Dark & Edgy

Pastel – Bright & Airy

Crush – Bold & Vivid

Black & White – Classic & Timeless

Conclusion

Visual Flow Presets make editing easy. Most photographers are looking for a way to expedite their editing process without compromising quality. One of the only cons is that you don’t get all of the different looks in one pack, you have to purchase them separately. I believe this is done because not all photographers want the variety so they can purchase each one on its own. I highly recommend pairing any pack you purchase with the Retouching Toolkit. This will allow you to have all the tools you need for enhancing your images all inside of Lightroom.
