Lorraine Mondial Air Ballons is a biennial event established in 1989. It is the largest gathering of hot air balloons in the world and takes place at the former NATO air base Chambley-Bussiere in Meurthe and Moselle, eastern France. The event lasts 10 days with over 1000 balloons from 70 nations participating. This year the Lorraine Mondial Air Ballons took place from July 24 to August 2.
The first flights of the event were all canceled due to wind and rain. Fortunately on Sunday, July 26, the weather was favorable and participants gathered to attempt “The Great Line” where over 400 balloons forming 3 lines for a total length of 6km would take flight. French photographer Boris Untereiner was there to document the event and here are some of the wonderful photos he took.
For this project Boris used a Canon 7D camera with a Sigma 10-20mm lens. Since altitude was the primary control in the balloon he was riding in, Boris focused on whatever what was in front of him and his goal was to show as much of the landscape and the number of balloons in the pictures. Lightroom and VSCO preset were used to optimize the pictures.
